It started with my own job.
I work inside a mom-and-pop Asian grocery, and for a long while my week there was mostly busywork.
The ordering ran on hundreds of spreadsheets and exported files that somebody copied and pasted by hand every week. Somebody else walked the aisles looking for empty shelves to figure out what to reorder, and then hundreds of items got typed into online shopping carts, one at a time. All of it went through the owner, who triple-checked everything before the orders went in.
I didn't pitch a project. I just automated my own piece of it first. Once the owner saw it was saving me about 12 hours a week, we kept going with buying, ordering, shipping, receiving, and inventory, one piece at a time.
A few months later, the busywork that used to occupy many hours for several workers was running
on its own with just a little oversight. Nobody lost a job. We spend those hours on the work
that actually needs a person, and the owner got her week back.
That work is where Peak came from.
